This is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between unsurpassed intellect and complete drivel, between enlightenment and shame. It lies between the pit of a creator's fears and the summit of what copyright will never own. This is the dimension of imagination; imitation; diversion; subversion; criticism; interpretation; ridiculousness; of appropriation. You are now entering the area known only as Kristie's blog.

Voice Challenge #2 asked by teatimebrutality.

Recite a poem.
Read the first page to one of your favorite books.
Read the little blurb on the back of your shampoo bottle.
Do a tongue-twister.
Say something in a different language.
Share an anecdote.
Do the rains in Spain stay mainly on the plains?
Summarize the last film/TV episode you watched.
Let us hear your ringtone and text message sound.
Tell a joke.
What did you have to eat today?
Talk about something that really scares you.
Talk about something that makes you happy.
What is your favorite word?
What is your least favorite word?
What turns you on?
What turns you off?
What sound or noise do you love?
What sound or noise do you hate?
What is your favorite curse word?
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
What profession would you not like to do?
If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
If you’re brave enough, singing us a little song.

UNPOPULAR OPINION CHALLENGE:

15. A habit you have that other people bug you over.

I peel the skin off my hands and feet. As in long, thick, strips of my own flesh. I am the one doing it and I no longer have delusions; it is disgusting. I’ve been doing it since I was 9.
I have been, now, diagnosed with a form of Psychodermotosis which is a faucet of Dermatillomanic behavior (or put simply “skin picking impulse control disorder due to psychological reasons”). My case has put me in a number of therapy sessions as a kid, among other reasons, and in and out of doctors and dermatologist’s offices growing up. In around 1998 one doctor told me my hands might be allergic to water - which is fun to repeat and a easy answer to tell people when I don’t feel like explaining/talking about it/giving a shit, but that was the stupidest diagnosis for sure. The study of Dermatillomania hasn’t honestly come far from when I was 11, but it is better.
And my “habit” has gotten better too. Between the ages of 12-15 I was picking almost the entirety of both my hands and my feet to the point were sometimes just holding a pen or putting on shoes could be extremely painful. The nerves in my hands in particular are rightly damaged and I have the weakest grip on the face of the planet.
I am, honestly, working on focusing and coming to terms with what I do to myself and I have come a long way - but I still find people telling me to stop biting/picking/scratching when I wasn’t even aware I was doing it. What sometimes enrages me is that people don’t realize that picking is basically my default mode of existence - I don’t honestly know if I’ll ever get to a point were I will stop doing it entirely. Sometimes I get scared for when I get old; my body will stop healing itself and my skin will get thinner and even more frail - will I have open wounds on my hands at 70?
So yeah. Picking is my biggest “habit” - but I also kind of swear a lot. I’m working on that too. XP

UNPOPULAR OPINION CHALLENGE:

14. A hobby you have/find interesting that other people bother you over/make fun of.

Role playing gets a lot of stares and scrunched up faces if I ever explain it. And while it doesn’t happen that often collecting comic books does sometimes as well - happened last night for the first time in a long time. Guy talks about organizing and reorganizing his vinyl collection and I’m all “I can totally relate! I’ll get these random urges to reorganize my comic books too,” and somehow I’m the fucking weirdo. Nice. Don’t talk about your hobbies with drunk people children. Especially when you’re sober.
I don’t collect Super Dollfies or Ball-jointed dolls but I think it is a interesting hobby and I’m sure it creeps out/confuses a lot of people. Yaoi and slash “culture” are also super interesting to me but that is kind of a self-made “hobby” and I don’t really talk to anyone about it outside of a screen or talking at a conference.

UNPOPULAR OPINION CHALLENGE:

13. Musical artists you love but have gotten shit for liking.

Opera: I’m not a expert or even that great an enthusiast (when compared to other’s passion for opera), but I do love opera. La Traviata is my favorite and I finally got to see it in 2005 at the Boboli Gardens within the Pitti Palace in Florence. It was awesome. I’ve also been to the Salzburg Festival twice. Also awesome. If I mention opera people just kind of squint in confusion but not too many people actually give me shit about it - until I start playing it that is.
Musicals: A lot more people give me shit about listening to musicals than they do opera. Opera is guarded by age and language while musicals are easily shit-on-able because it ain’t that old and what is being said can usually be understood (in most cases) and thus made fun of. I have great respect and adoration for musical composers and musicals of all types - I listen to musical albums like I do any other album: All they way through enough times to know it by heart, then skipping around when I want, which is really what weirds people out the most I think. To pop in something like Company and skip to any song is off putting to most people as they are usually void of context, or caring about context, and people in such cases either “over-listen” trying to understand or “under-listen” and get confused - both of which usually case frustration in varying degrees. But even when listening from point A to Z I’ve had a lot of people tell me they just don’t like the musical arrangements and lyrics of musicals “in general” but I personally think that is bullshit. Like, just flat out bullshit. That is like saying you don’t like music arrangements in general; look and listen and you’ll find a musical that appeals to you like you do with any type of music. I mean, I understand saying you don’t like musicals (I just assume that means you don’t like any you’ve heard or seen), but I do get irritable when people say things along the lines of “I just don’t like them at all and it is because musicals are all bad.” YOU KNOW?
That was super ranty, therapeutic this challenge is sometimes.

11. A sport you really like, for whatever reason.

Football/soccer. Yeah - I know. I know. SERIOUSLY, I FUCKING KNOW. “Hooray. He’s kicked the ball. Now it’s over there. That man’s got it now. That’s an interesting development.” I still love it. I don’t have a team I root for, I just like to play - and I do have fun watching games as well. Less so professional games because someone is grabbing their knee every five seconds, but local teams and tournaments are great!
I also really, really enjoy baseball. Baseball games are fun to go to.
